On April 1, 1964, the Selectmen voted to enter the Eastern Essex District of Veterans Services. The member towns include Essex, Hamilton, Ipswich and Wenham. A Board consisting of the Chairman of the Board of Selectmen in each member town appoints a Director of Veteran's Services of the district and an Assistant Director, if necessary.
Two main programs are provided:
1) to inform and assist veterans and their families of their rights and entitlements under the law
2) to render financial assistance in the time of need pursuant to Chapter 115 of the General Laws.
